Welcome to Trellis

By using Trellis ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. We've tried to keep this readable - no one likes legalese.

What Trellis does

Trellis is a personal finance and meal planning tool that helps you understand your spending, find savings opportunities, track your net worth, plan for retirement, plan meals for your family, and make smarter shopping decisions. It is not financial, investment, or tax advice, and we are not a broker, investment adviser, or financial fiduciary. Always consult a qualified professional before making financial or investment decisions.

Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old to use Trellis.
• You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
• One account per person. Don't share your login.
• Provide accurate information - we need it to give you useful recommendations.

License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Trellis for personal, non-commercial purposes. If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms (including Apple's standard EULA) also apply.

Your data

You own your data. When you connect a bank account via Plaid, scan receipts, or enter family details, that information belongs to you. We process it to provide our services, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can request deletion at any time.

Household sharing

Inviting someone to your household shares your household's financial data with them. You're responsible for who you invite. Household admins can remove members at any time.

Data retention & deletion

We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our services. When you delete your account, all associated data - including transaction history, connected accounts, balances, investment and net-worth data, spending analysis, AI chat history, meal plans, recipes, and personal information - is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Plaid connections are revoked and associated access tokens are deleted.

You can request data deletion at any time by contacting [email protected] or using the delete account option in the app.

Subscriptions & free trials

Some features require a premium subscription, managed through RevenueCat. Subscription terms:

• Billing occurs through your app store (Apple App Store or Google Play).
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings (Apple: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions; Android: Play Store > Subscriptions).
• Refunds are handled by the respective app store per their policies.

New accounts get a free trial automatically: full access for the rest of the current month plus the next full month. No payment method is collected for the trial, and nothing converts or auto-bills when it ends - premium features simply lock until you choose to subscribe through the App Store or Google Play.

AI-generated content

Trellis uses artificial intelligence (powered by OpenAI) to generate meal suggestions, recipes, nutrition estimates, and other recommendations. You should be aware that:

• AI-generated content is for informational purposes only and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
• Meal suggestions and recipes are not medical or dietary advice. Always consult your doctor or a registered dietitian for specific dietary needs, especially for young children.
• Nutrition estimates (calories, protein, carbs, etc.) are approximate and should not be relied upon for medical dietary requirements.
• Always check all ingredients for potential allergens before preparing any suggested meal. While Trellis allows you to specify dietary restrictions and allergies, AI-generated recipes may not account for all allergens or cross-contamination risks.
• Trellis is not responsible for adverse reactions to suggested meals or recipes.

Connecting your own AI assistant

You can connect a third-party AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) to your Trellis account. Doing so is at your direction. The third party's own terms and privacy policy govern how it handles your data, and Trellis isn't responsible for actions your assistant takes on your behalf.

Acceptable use

Don't:

• Use Trellis for anything illegal.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the app.
• Upload fake or fraudulent financial data.
• Resell or redistribute Trellis features.

Net worth, retirement & investing information

Trellis can connect your investment and loan accounts to show your net worth, and it can show retirement projections and general information about saving and investing. Please keep in mind:

• Account balances, investment values, and net worth are provided by Plaid and your financial institutions and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Always rely on your official account statements.
• Retirement projections are illustrative estimates based on the details you provide and general assumptions we make (such as an assumed average annual rate of return). They are not predictions or guarantees, and your actual results will differ.
• Any information about accounts such as 401(k)s, IRAs, or index funds is general educational information, not personalised investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
• Trellis is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, or financial planner, and does not act as your fiduciary. Consult a qualified professional before making investment or retirement decisions.

Accuracy & limitations

We do our best to provide accurate spending analysis, deal information, and savings estimates. However:

• Deal prices and availability may change without notice.
• Product swap suggestions are recommendations, not guarantees.
• Savings estimates are projections based on your data and may vary.
• Grocery store locations and availability are provided by third-party services and may not always be current.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Trellis and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to:

• Financial, investment, or retirement decisions made based on spending analysis, savings recommendations, net-worth figures, or projections.
• Adverse reactions to AI-suggested meals, recipes, or ingredients, including allergic reactions.
• Inaccurate nutrition information or dietary recommendations.
• Incorrect deal prices, product availability, or store information.
• Loss of data or service interruptions.

You use Trellis at your own risk. The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.

Changes to the service

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of Trellis. We'll give reasonable notice for significant changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted per our Privacy Policy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Trellis shall be resolved in the courts located in California.
